چکیده
ATHOROUGH STUDY of a vasoactive agent should inelude effects on resistance to blood flow (influences arterial pressure and rate of blood flow), storage of blood (influences effective eircuilating volume and, hence, venous return, cardiac output, and arterial pressure), capillary patency (iinfluences diffusion distances and, therefore, rates of movement of material and heat), and filtration pressure (influences storage of water in tissues). This paper presents a comparison of the local effects of angiotensin and other vasoactive agents on resistance to blood flow through the dog forelimb and gut beds and on C"filtration pressure" in the dog forelimb and rabbit ear. Preliminary observations on blood storage in the dog forelimb are also mentioned. Inasmuch as the data contained in the paper were derived from a number of studies conducted over the last 10 years, the methods utilized are summarized as each study is presented.

Effect of Angiotensin II on Blood Flow in Acute and Chronically Inflamed Knee Joints of Rabbits: The Role of Nitric Oxide
Background: Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) upregulation in stromal cells of joints affected by rheumatoid arthritis may lead to higher tissue angiotensin II that is a vasoconstrictor and mitogen factor. To date, the role of angiotensin II on regulating blood flow in inflamed joints has not been studied. Methods: Acute and chronic joint inflammation was induced in rabbits by intra-articular...
متن کاملInvestigation of Response to Angiotensin (Ang ) and its Receptor Subtypes in Acutely Inflamed Joint Blood Vessels in Rabbit
Introduction: Inflammatory joint diseases are common in elderly, and regulation of joint blood flow (JBF) is important in these conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the response of inflamed joint blood vessels to angiotensin (Ang ), a vasoconstrictor factor which has been shown to be produced in inflamed joints locally. Identification of Ang receptor subtypes in joint blood ve...
متن کاملContraction of vascular smooth muscle in response to plasma. Comparison with response to known vasoactive agents.
Addition of plasma to the physiologic salt solution in which helical strips of vascular smooth muscle were suspended caused the muscle to contract. The plasma was obtained from dog arterial blood which, extracorporeally, had been in contact only with siliconized polyethylene in the cold. The strips were from large and small vessels from several sites in rabbit and dog. The contractions were rep...
متن کاملCONCISE REVIEW IN MECHANISMS OF DISEASE Vascular Mediators in the Injured Liver
The vasculature plays a critical role in multiple physiologic and pathophysiologic processes. A number of recent advances have led to renewed focus on the vasculature in the liver. In patients with chronic liver disease, 3 general vascular beds are of importance. These include the peripheral vasculature, the mesenteric vascular bed, and the intrahepatic microcirculatory unit; abnormalities exis...

Essential hypertension is one of the risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. Hypertension etiology is not completely known, it seems that rennin-Angiotensin system has an important role in its etiology, Thus better recognition of this system and its activity changes or vascular reaction changes to different parts of this system during progressive hypertension can be more effective in better re...
